BG3 Investigate The Suspicious Toys Quest Walkthrough

Navigating the sprawling streets of Rivington in Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3 introduces players to numerous moral dilemmas and complex side quests. One of the most sinister storylines you will encounter involves a cruel plot to harm vulnerable refugees using booby-trapped donations. Uncovering this conspiracy requires keen investigative skills, stealth, and preparation for an explosive tactical confrontation in the Lower City.
Discovering the Exploded Donations
The investigation officially begins at the Requisitioned Barn located in the southeastern section of Rivington. Inside this heavily guarded facility, players can discover a suspicious crate filled with innocent-looking teddy bears hidden in the northern corner. Passing a passive Investigation check reveals that these toys have been packed with dangerous explosives meant for the refugee children.
Once the trap is discovered, a Flaming Fist guard named Manip Nestor will approach to question your party. You must pass a Persuasion or Deception dialogue check to convince the guards of your innocence and secure your freedom to track down the culprit. Successfully resolving this encounter grants your party official approval to find the mastermind behind the attack.
Confronting the Toymaker Arfur Gregorio
Clues quickly lead away from the barn toward a large mansion situated nearby to the northwest. Here, you will find the wealthy toymaker Arfur Gregorio engaged in a heated argument with desperate refugees who have occupied his property. To advance the story smoothly, it is highly recommended to persuade or bribe Arfur into letting the refugees stay inside his home.
Once Arfur leaves or gives you access, head straight to the eastern room of the mansion where a hidden hatch sits obscured by heavy wooden crates. Descending into the basement reveals a dangerous area filled with pressure plates and tripwire traps. Navigating to the far corner allows you to lockpick a trapped chest containing a golden key and a blackmail letter detailing Arfur's direct involvement.
Infiltrating Felogyr's Fireworks
With incriminating evidence in hand, track Arfur down to the luxurious Sharess' Caress brothel near the Wyrm's Crossing checkpoint. Confronting the cowardly toymaker with his letter forces him to confess that he was blackmailed by cultists operating out of a local shop. He will provide your party with a secret passphrase and a Lower City pass before you decide whether to spare him or hand him over to justice.
Travel to the Lower City and locate Felogyr's Fireworks, which sits just southwest of the Basilisk Gate waypoint. Speak directly with the clerk named Avery Sonshal behind the front counter and deliver the secret passcode to gain access to the upper levels. While the second floor remains accessible, elite guards block the final staircase leading to the forbidden third floor where the actual bombs are manufactured.
Dismantling the Banite Operation
Ending this threat permanently requires completely eliminating the Banite cultists running the illegal manufacturing lab on the top floor. Because the entire building is packed with volatile smokepowder barrels, open combat can easily trigger a catastrophic chain reaction. A highly effective strategy involves using an invisibility potion or spell on a rogue character to sneak upstairs unnoticed.
Once positioned on the top floor, detonating the explosive caches with a well-placed fire spell or flame arrow will immediately decimate the enemy forces. After the massive explosions settle, clear out any remaining survivors to officially conclude the operation. Looting the bodies provides gold, rare ammunition, and valuable crafting materials as a just reward for saving the city's refugees.
